Materials
The longing to experience a tactile, immediate and true contact with the Renaissance led us to create historically authentic materials which establish a bond with the Old Masters and their artistic legacy. By making the drawing materials which were used by artists like Verrocchio, Leonardo da Vinci, and Raphael, we enable participation in the creative process and culture of the Renaissance masters. The historical approach to creativity and drawing embodied by these artists was bound to a craft tradition from which these materials emerge. Our Hand-Forged Silverpoint Stylus range is based on depicted and extant examples of Renaissance Styli with each stylus of ours being unique and forged by hand in London in the craft tradition of historical Europe. All materials we make are historically authentic and would be recognisable to the artists of the quattrocento. The design of the Maestro and the Artista silverpoint styli are based on the stylus depicted in Jan Gossart’s St Luke Drawing the Virgin c. 1515. Once forged, pointed, and polished, our styli are then hallmarked by hand at The Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office in London where hallmarking began in 1300.
