Through these six online sessions you will draw from the skeleton, discovering the process and methodology of drawing used in the Renaissance while learning the structure of the structure of the human body.

Overview

Learn the anatomy of the human skeleton alongside the drawing techniques of the Renaissance Masters. Through these six online sessions you will draw from the human skeleton, discovering the process and methodology of drawing used by artists like Leonardo and Michelangelo while learning the structure of the human body. You will develop your understanding of the skeleton through breaking the whole system down week by week, producing detailed drawings with anatomical labelling. The course will develop your drawing skills and teach you the use of multimedia in the manner of many of the most beautiful works on paper from the Renaissance

You Will Learn:

  • The structure and mechanism of the human skeleton
  • The Renaissance Masters’ approach to anatomical drawing
  • Key anatomical principles which underpin figure drawing
  • How to represent forms with volume, relief and tone
  • The layered approach to drawing used by Leonardo

Course Structure:

Class 1 – The Skull | Drawing the Skull and Cervical Vertebrae

Class 2 – The Ribcage | Drawing the Thorax and Thoracic Vertebrae

Class 3 – The Pelvis | Drawing the Pelvis and Lumbar Vertebrae

Class 4 – The Legs | Drawing the Bones of the Lower Limb

Class 5 – The Arms | Drawing the Bones of the Upper Limb

Class 6 – Hands and Feet | Drawing the Extremities

You Will Need:

Pencil (HB – 2B) or Metalpoint

Pen and ink

Brushes for applying washes of ink

White paint or chalk for highlights

Off-white paper
